Next update September 19
Time to show off the cover art for Chaos Unleashed!
We are only about six weeks away from the release of the final book in my Chaos Born trilogy! This is it: the epic conclusion; the final chapter that began with Children of Fire. If you’ve been following the adventures of Keegan, Scythe, Vaaler, Cassandra and their friends (and enemies!), you don’t have much longer to wait to see how it all turns out!
If you’re one of the folks who bought the first two books, please know that I really, really appreciate your support. I know there is a lot of fantasy out there, and I’m humbled and honored that there are fans out there who were willing to take a chance and spend their hard earned money and valuable time with my books. As an author, that’s all you can ask for; I hope they’ve lived up to your expectations and delivered you many hours of fun, excitement and entertainment. And if you have read the first two books, feel free to check out the first chapter of (SPOILERS!) Chaos Unleashed! (SPOILERS!).
If you’re one of my fans who hasn’t read the series yet, don’t worry – I don’t hold a grudge. I’ve even gone and cleaned up my spoiler-free Chaos Born Trilogy page on the website to make it even easier for you to get started!
I’m hoping some of you were just waiting until the series was finished before jumping in. Believe me, I understand that. As a fan of fantasy, I know how frustrating it is to finish a book with a cliffhanger ending, then have to wait months (or, in some cases, even years) to see what happens next. I know how frustrating it can be when that book finally comes out, and you’ve forgotten a bunch of details because it’s been so long since you read the last one. Sure, you can re-read the previous book. But if you’re like me you already have a giant “to-do” list of books to read, and I hate re-reading something when there is new stuff waiting on the pile.
But now that the series is over, you don’t have to worry about that! Pre-order Chaos Unleashed now, buy Children of Fire and The Scorched Earth, and when October rolls around you can rip through all three books one after the other!
Okay, enough of the hard sell. Let’s check out the US and UK covers, side by side:
In case you can’t guess, that’s Scythe in the foreground, and Keegan in the background – two of the main characters in the series. This is the first time we’ve actually featured any of the Children of Fire on the cover. Children of Fire’s cover showed, Rexol, the Chaos Mage that took Keegan in as an apprentice. The US version of The Scorched Earth showed Shalana, a new character introduced in the second book; and the UK version featured Shalana and Norr, Scythe’s lover and companion.
So why the change? Well, now that we’re in the final book it just felt right. In the first two books, much of the action is driven by the characters around the four Children of Fire. It’s not that they were helpless or passive, but they were often reacting to forces beyond their control and struggling with the consequences of Chaos as it was unleashed on the mortal world. In the third book, however, it’s time for them to step up and try to take control of their destiny.
I’ve still got a couple more updates to go before the book actually comes out, and I’ve got a couple giveaways and promotions planned as we get nearer. So if you don’t follow me on Twitter or Goodreads, now is a good time to start – I’m going to be running some contests with signed books as prizes on both sites over the next couple weeks.
I’m also scheduled to do an Ask Me Anything on October 8th over at r/fantasy on Reddit. We’re not taking questions yet, but I’ll be reminding folks about it as we get closer so you don’t forget.
Okay, that’s about it for this update. Next time – a contest and I finally unveil a map of the Mortal Realms! I know you can hardly wait!
