Players get to side with\u00a0either the Empire or the Republic, choosing one of\u00a0eight different classes each with a unique story longer than the original Knights of the Old Republic.\u00a0Add in regular updates every few months, including new story content, and you have a beast that dwarfs anything else I&#8217;ve ever worked on.<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"http:\/\/masseffect.bioware.com\/\">Mass Effect 2<\/a><\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright\" style=\"border: 2px solid black;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.drewkarpyshyn.com\/games_files\/image011.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"256\" height=\"205\" \/>The sequel to the award winning 2007 game was released in January of 2010. ME2 blew away critics and fans alike, and became\u00a0EA&#8217;s\u00a0highest\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.metacritic.com\/games\/platforms\/xbox360\/masseffect2?q=Mass%20Effect%202\">MetaCritic<\/a> rated game.\u00a0\u00a0I was the co-lead writer on Mass Effect 2, along with Mac Walters, and it was great to see the franchise continuing to grow, evolve and mature. Right from day one we said the Mass Effect series was going to be a trilogy, so even though both ME1 and ME2 have self-contained stories, you know the big finale is still to come!<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;-<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"http:\/\/www.masseffect.com\/me1\/\">Mass Effect<\/a><\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.masseffect.com\/\"><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.masseffect.com\/\"><\/a><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright\" style=\"border: 2px solid black;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.drewkarpyshyn.com\/games_files\/image009.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"267\" height=\"200\" \/>Released in November 2007,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.masseffect.com\/\"><\/a>Mass Effect is the first game set in the brand new science fiction universe created by\u00a0BioWare. I was the lead writer on ME (and the writer of the ME novels), so it was extremely gratifying to see the amazing reaction this game got from fans and critics.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;-<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bioware.com\/games\/knights_old_republic\/\">Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic<\/a><\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright\" style=\"border: 2px solid black;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.drewkarpyshyn.com\/games_files\/image001.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"284\" height=\"134\" \/>This was my first game as a lead writer, and it was a huge hit with fans and critics alike. It was the 2003 Game of the Year and it also let me get my foot in the door with\u00a0LucasArts, eventually leading to the Darth Bane novel Path of Destruction.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;-<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"http:\/\/jade.bioware.com\/\">Jade Empire<\/a><\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/jade.bioware.com\/\"><\/a><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright\" style=\"border: 2px solid black;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.drewkarpyshyn.com\/games_files\/image008.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"103\" \/>This was the first original intellectual property developed by\u00a0BioWare, meaning they owned all the rights. Although I wasn\u2019t the lead writer on the project, I did get the opportunity to contribute to the story and writing of the game.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8211;<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"http:\/\/nwn.bioware.com\/\">Neverwinter\u00a0Nights<\/a><\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright\" style=\"border: 2px solid black;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.drewkarpyshyn.com\/games_files\/image005.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"205\" height=\"154\" \/>I worked as a writer on the original\u00a0Neverwinter\u00a0Nights campaign and on the second expansion pack, Hordes of theUnderdark. If you haven\u2019t played Hordes of the\u00a0Underdark\u00a0I urge you to give it a try \u2013 it\u2019s an amazing conclusion to the\u00a0Neverwitner\u00a0Nights series.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8211;<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bioware.com\/games\/baldurs_gate\/\">Baldur\u2019s Gate<\/a><\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright\" style=\"border: 2px solid black;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.drewkarpyshyn.com\/games_files\/image007.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"241\" height=\"153\" \/>Unfortunately I never had the chance to work on the original Baldur\u2019s Gate game. I joined\u00a0BioWare\u00a0a few months before Baldur\u2019s Gate II: Shadows of\u00a0Amn\u00a0was released, and I\u2019m glad I was able to make a small contribution to what many consider the best fantasy\u00a0rpg ever made for the pc.
