November 30

Guess it’s time for another update.

We’re rolling into December, and thinks are pretty much on an even keel for me. Still working at BioWare – things are going well, but I can’t really say much about the project beyond the official corporate releases.

Still working on my next book, but nothing I can announce yet on that front either. As for my last novel, the sales for Chaos Unleashed, the final volume in my Chaos Born trilogy, are solid – pretty much in line with what was expected based on the previous two novels’ sales. Hopefully they’ll get a nice holiday boost this next month.

I was hoping to have some news on a box collection or something like that for the Christmas season, but that’s still pending… not sure if it’s going to happen or not. If it does, I’ll be sure to post something on Twitter. And I guess that’s the real problem with these news updates now.

When I first started this little update/blog/whatever it was one of the only ways to get information out to my fans: what I was up to; when books were coming out; appearances or signings I might be doing. But now I put most of that info on Twitter – it’s so much quicker and easier.

So I started to use these updates more as a blog to share my thoughts and opinions. I tried to put up something new and interesting every few weeks, but the problem is I often couldn’t think of something I wanted to write about. These updates became work. Non-profitable work. Writing a blog takes time and effort, and that cuts into my ability to produce novels and games… in other words, writing something for free is hurting my ability to write something I get paid for. That just isn’t smart business.

Going forward, I’m no longer going to do regular updates. I’m not going to give myself an arbitrary date to come up with a new blog post – that’s why the “Next Post” feature I usually include is missing from this entry. I’m not abandoning this blog completely, but from now on I’m only going to post when I think I have something important or interesting to share.

If I’m going to a convention, I’ll post information about where I’ll be and when. If I’ve got a new project coming out, I’ll post information about what it is and why fans might like it. If I have some great idea that I must share with the world, I’ll be sure to put it up here when the muse moves me. But I’m not going to keep doing updates just for the sake of updates.

The world has changed – day to day stuff is now relegated to my Twitter account; if you really want to know what I’m up to you can follow me there. And if something comes up that doesn’t fit into 140 characters, I’ll write a post here and use my Twitter account to let folks know the new blog is up.

For those loyal readers who came here regularly, thank you. But our time is (sort of) coming to an end. Hopefully things will get busy this spring and summer and I’ll have lots of stuff I need to post about, but until then this blog may go dormant for a few months. So Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and Joyous Holidays to all – see you sometime in 2016!

Oh… and buy my books!
