Next update November 15

Time for another update and an inside look at the world of Drew!

I’m actually a day early with this post – first time ever! (Though I did delay it by a week, so maybe that doesn’t count.) Anyway…

I’m back from New York Comic Con, where I had a great time as part of the Epic Fantasy Panel. I also got to sign some books and meet fans at the BioWare Community Cantina. If you’ve never been to one of the Community Cantina events, check out the link and see if there’s one in your area – lots of fun!

As much as I enjoyed my trip out East, it’s good to be home. It’s autumn here in Texas. The weather has turned from “hotter than Satan’s armpit” to “perfect for golf”; the NBA season is starting in a week (go, Spurs!) and the Chargers look like they might be a fringe playoff contender in the NFL. Someone suggested an acceptable Halloween name for my Twitter account, and Star Wars: Annihilation is coming out in paperback on October 29.

If you haven’t read Annihilation yet, I strongly urge you to pick it up. It’s very different from my other Star Wars novels; it almost feels like James Bond in space. There are minor spoilers for the SWTOR MMO, but nothing too major… though it does feature some of the characters from the game in smaller roles. Check out the full description on my NOVELS page. It’s the second entry, so just scroll down a bit for the write-up.

Moving into the fall I finally feel like I have a chance to rest and catch my breath. Not that the summer was bad; just busy. My wife and I made our usual trip to Canada to see family; we made another trip to see friends in Maine, and of course we made a quick trip to Vegas to celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary. We also had friends come stay with us in Texas on multiple occasions, and both sets of parents came down at different times.

On the business side, things were just as busy. In addition to NYCC, I was also at San Diego Comic Con, and WorldCon in San Antonio promoting Children of Fire, the first book in my Chaos Born trilogy. At the same time, I was finishing the second book in the trilogy, The Scorched Earth.

If you click that link, you’ll see the (unofficial) publication date and cover art for the book. The woman on the cover is a new character named Shalana; you can get a better look at her here.  (I know some of you will want to pronounce her name like it rhymes with banana, but I pronounce it Shuh-lay-nuh.)

I won’t reveal too much about her right now, except to say that she’s a member of the Clans in the Frozen East. As you might suspect from the cover art, she plays a very prominent role in book 2, and much of the action takes place in Norr’s former homeland.

I’m very excited for The Scorched Earth to come out. All the pieces of the story I’ve been setting up through Children of Fire really start to come together, and I can’t wait to see how readers react. My editors are looking over the manuscript, and once we finalize it I’ll be jumping into the final book in the trilogy, Chaos Unleashed.

Okay, I think that’s all for this update. I’ll leave you with a short interview I did for Player 2, a Brazilian gaming site. There could be more interviews coming soon as Annihilation is released, too. Sign up on my Twitter account to get updates as they come out.
